The Center’s Speak Up for Better Health Award

The Center for Consumer Engagement in Health Innovation is pleased to announce the Speak Up for Better Health Award. This new prize recognizes exceptional people raising their voices and working to improve their health and the health of their communities. Our goal is to find and amplify stories of people whose lives and actions demonstrate the power that each of us has to make better health possible for all of us.

For example, do you know:

  • An older adult who has advocated for a better health care program for people in their community or congregation?
  • A person with disabilities who has joined a health plan advisory committee and worked for better accessibility and care for all patients?
  • A caregiver who has used her or his experience caring for a loved one to fight for improved services or policies?
  • A parent who has worked for sidewalks and better transportation in a low-income neighborhood?

If so, please use our form to nominate them for the first Speak Up for Better Health award! You may nominate yourself or someone you work with or know.

We will be accepting nominations until May 31st. A panel of judges will review the entries and we will announce the contest winners by late June.

We will select a Grand Prize winner, as well as three runners-up.

In particular, we are looking for everyday people who struggle with a serious health challenge and have nevertheless taken up their leadership in extraordinary ways. Undeterred by roadblocks to better care, they tirelessly seek change for themselves and others with clinicians, health system leaders, elected officials or policymakers. These advocates may include parents or caregivers of someone with complex needs, people with disabilities or chronic illness, older adults, and/or people experiencing poverty or other social challenge.

The Grand Prize winner will receive $500 and each of the runners-up will receive $200. The Grand Prize winner will be honored and recognized at the Community Catalyst Annual Convening of State Advocates in September 2018 in Atlanta.

The Center may feature nominees on its website, presentations and publications.
